Switching to Plant-Based Alternatives: All You Need to Know

The world is gravitating to looking at more sustainable options in the hope that we reverse the harm we have caused to the planet. A widely seen change is in everyday diet. Many are increasingly transitioning to a plant-based diet.

Now we all know why plant-based foods are more sustainable or better for the planet. They use much less water, require less land cultivation and have a much smaller carbon footprint compared to animal meat.

It’s also good for you. Plant-based food products naturally come without the harm animal-based products come with. They are free of cholesterol, trans fats and can be just as high in protein. Moreover, they’re naturally rich in various nutrients that come from plants.

We hope that’s all the motivation you need to make the switch. If not, we totally understand. It takes time to change innate dietary habits that have formed over decades. So don’t look to make overnight changes.

However, if you’re on the edge about going meatless don’t worry, we got you. Here are some tips:

  1. One meat at a time

We know meat comes in various types and forms but here’s a tip for you – start by getting off one meat, then slowly wane off the rest. Don’t go cold turkey – yes, pun intended.

  1. Get a friend to do it with you

Nothing is more motivating than having another friend on your journey who is taking on the same challenge. United we stand and divided we fall.

  1. Try some delicious plant based-meat options available in the market

There are various mock meat options like Seekh Kebab, Burger Patty, Keema, Samosa, etc. available in the market. Some companies that sell delicious plant based chicken and plant based meat products are GoodDot, Sudo Foods, Blue Tribe, Shaka Harry, etc. These will get you started with plant based meat in India.

  1. Try some plant-based meat recipes

Identify some interesting blogs and Youtube channels that feature vegan recipes. Here are some vegan culinary wizards worth following: Vegan_VeganFood on Instagram, Sudo Foods on Youtube, PickUpLimes on Instagram, RainbowPlantLife on Instagram and so on… all to get you used to your favourite plant based chicken.

  1. To begin with, set a day in a week

Get yourself in the groove by setting aside a day in a week, to begin with. If you’d like to make a change, what better day to start with than Monday? Meatless Monday is a thing!

Globally, Mondays are celebrated as Meatless Mondays with the movement gaining momentum over the last few years. Vegans and non-vegans worldwide take a pledge not to consume meat on this day.

Use #MeatlessMonday or just search Meatless Monday to unlock a whole new exciting world of recipes, tips, and much more. In solidarity, we stand!

If you’re on the fence about a plant-based diet and it’s real impact, here are some not-so-fun facts. One person skipping one meal of meat in a week for a whole year would result in:

  1. Reduction of greenhouse emissions by 8 pounds. This would equate to driving a hatchback for 348 miles.
  2. Saving 23,212 gallons of water! Incredible, isn’t it?

No action is too small in this journey of making the switch to plant-based alternatives. Want to make the world a better place?

Want to start taking care of your health?

You’re not alone in this!
